Orthodontics
WA Dental is at the forefront of modern orthodontics run by our orthodontic dentist, Dr Marc. He is able to not just straighten teeth, but redesign your smile and bite to give you a healthier and happier mouth. This is only possible through extensive training and advanced technology.
During your visit to our clinic, Dr Marc can determine the severity of your malocclusion by analysing the positioning of your upper and lower jaws. With minor malocclusions, your upper teeth may slightly overlap your lower teeth. Overbites and underbites are more severe forms of malocclusion, which may take a little longer to correct. To diagnose your bite, we perform a physical examination of your mouth. We will also take X-rays to get a detailed look at your jawbone, teeth, and roots. We then take a 3D scan of your teeth to create a model of your mouth. Common treatments include braces and clear aligners like Invisalign. Both treatments are trusted to treat mild, moderate and severe malocclusions.
Reasons To Consider Teeth Straightening
Straight Teeth and Your Jaws
In order to help avoid excessive and unnatural forces on your jaw joints, it is important to have a healthy bite with straight teeth. If we don’t have teeth in the correct position, there can often be interferences when trying to close the teeth together. This means that the jaws can’t close where they feel comfortable, possibly leading to degeneration, locking, clicking and pain of the jaw joints.
Straight Teeth and Dental Decay
Many teeth that become decayed are not in perfect alignment. This is because it is very difficult to clean teeth properly when they are overlapping in a crowded mouth. It is much easier to keep your teeth clean and decay-free when you are able to easily access all surfaces of your teeth with a toothbrush and floss.
Straight Teeth and Gum Disease
Gum disease is also very difficult to control when the teeth are overcrowded. Gums that are not cleaned properly in combination with teeth not taking the ideal loads of force due to them being on unnatural angles, can cause recession of the gums around teeth.
Straight Teeth and Broken Teeth
When teeth take forces through unnatural angles due to crowding, teeth often tend to crack, chip and break. Teeth are designed well to take on the forces produced by your jaws but only when the forces are in line with your teeth. The more your teeth are twisted or angled out, the more vulnerable they are to being damaged.
Straight Teeth and Self Confidence
If you’re not proud of your smile and happy to show your teeth off, this can significantly impact your self-confidence. Smiling with your mouth closed or trying to hide your teeth when you speak or laugh is a devastating issue that so many of our patients no longer have to worry about.
Straight Teeth and Overall Health
There are now countless studies that show the correlation of oral disease and systemic health issues. Controlling the number of bad bacteria in your mouth is vital to help maintain a healthy body. Being able to brush and floss easily is going to help reduce your bad bacterial load in your mouth.
