Routine dental visits are one of the best ways to help your child become more familiar and comfortable with visiting the dentist. By incorporating early education and establishing healthy habits, we can help your child avoid common problems like tooth decay and gum disease. Starting at an early age, we recommend a 6 monthly check-up and clean so that we can evaluate your child’s dental development and intervene with orthodontic treatment if required. We recommend bringing your children in for a checkup as soon as their first tooth erupts.

Most babies will get their first tooth between 6 and 10 months and will have all their baby teeth by the time they are 3 years old. Adult teeth replace baby teeth generally between the ages of 6 and 12 years old. The wisdom teeth are the last teeth to emerge, often coming through in the late teens. Your child will start losing baby teeth around the age of 6. Sometimes an adult tooth will come through before the baby tooth has fallen out. If this happens and the baby tooth hasn’t fallen out within 2 to 3 months, we recommend getting this checked by one of our dentists.

We may recommend fissure sealants to protect and strengthen your children’s teeth. Sealants are a non-invasive and painless way to protect teeth from tooth decay. Fissure sealants are thin, protective coatings applied to the biting surfaces of the teeth. They form a hard shield protecting food and bacteria from getting stuck in the tiny pits and fissures. Fissure sealants are usually recommended as soon as the permanent molars erupt, at 6 years old, and then again at around 12 years old.
